One Book at a Time

This surprises many people since my job involves a heavy dose of numbers, but I’ve always loved reading and was actually an English major in college.  I didn’t read nearly as much after college, though I did have a brief renaissance around 2019/2020.  Then Covid hit, we had a baby, and – you can guess the rest.  Life happened, and reading took a back seat (or no seat at all) to so many other priorities.

Fortunately, I have been able to make more time lately for reading.  I just finished “The Antisocial Network,” a fascinating in-depth look at the GameStop stock craze that happened in 2021.  In an interesting connection, one of the protagonists – the YouTuber known as Roaring Kitty – attended Stonehill College at the same time I did, though I never knew him.  After that, I picked back up a book I started a couple of years ago: Ron Chernow’s Alexander Hamilton biography, the 800-page behemoth that inspired the hit musical.

With a job that involves staring at a screen for most of the day, I prefer my reading to be analog and I’ve never owned any sort of e-reader.  I already have several books sitting on my bookshelf, including Daniel Solin’s “Ask,” Leidy Klotz’s “Subtract,” and two from physicist Brian Greene (an interest sparked by the quantum mechanics class I took in college).  But I’m always looking for more books to read next and would be happy to hear any suggestions!
