Saoirse's first plane ride

We have our sights set on a trip to Europe in the Fall but figured a 7-hour plane ride shouldn't be Saoirse's first flight. So, to prepare for that, we flew to where my husband hopes to retire a few decades from now: Wilmington, NC.

Upon visiting for the first time, we did love it. It reminds me of Old Orchard Beach, but much hotter. The flight down was surprisingly uneventful; Saoirse didn't cry at all as she was fascinated with what she could see out of the window.

My parental vacation blunder was that while I had spent weeks acclimating Saoirse to sand so that we could enjoy the beach, I shouldn't have assumed she loves all sources of water just because she loves the pool... She apparently hates waves and refused to go near the ocean once the first wave touched her toes at the water's edge. I need to figure that one out with her seeing as we live a quarter mile from the beach!

All in all, Wilmington is a great place to visit, albeit quite hot midday in June. Who knows if this is where we will end up retiring to, but it does hold the promise of less snow, which to me is a point in their favor.
