Truro

We recently returned from our annual week in Truro.  Since I’m with Briana every day, it’s sometimes easy to overlook the big developmental changes that take place.  But some of those came into sharp relief, seeing her in the same setting a full 12 months apart.

The biggest difference was the beach.  Last year she was on the cusp of walking and now her favorite way to get around is running.  She absolutely loved running along the beach, or running down to the water with a rock to throw in.  She could also play much more, filling buckets with sand, shells, and seaweed, or splashing.  We also took her into the ocean for the first time, which she really enjoyed.

Another big difference was socially, as she could interact and communicate much better with her older cousins.  This year she was talking up a storm, identifying items she knew and commenting on what was happening.  She particularly enjoyed being chased, dance parties, and calling people silly.

I will say that going out was a little harder.  Last year she was so interested in everything that it wasn’t bad.  She would sit in her stroller, in silent awe and taking in everything she saw.  But this year she wasn’t very interested in sitting still, not when she could explore a bit or try and entice one of her cousins to chase her.  We ended up taking turns running with her between trellises when we visited Truro Vineyard.

It was a great week.  It’s cool to think that one day Briana may actually remember some of this – my wife has some memories from her Truro trip around the same age.  Let’s just hope that she’ll remember it as fondly as we will.
