Winter Blues
Is it just me, or has this winter been a particularly tough slog? I don’t mind a little cold, although I’ve always thought we get too much. If we could skip February and head right to March, or skip March and head right to April, that would be great. And I do enjoy a little snow. But not when that snow freezes into ice.
I think this is partly a function of having an energetic toddler. Just like us, she’s been stuck inside and getting cabin fever. To her credit, she doesn’t seem to mind the cold and wants to be outside. It’s just that lately it’s often been a bit too cold for that to be very safe.
Another part of it’s just bad luck. At one point, we had four social plans in a row cancelled – twice because of our sickness, twice because of someone else’s. That certainly hasn’t helped the cabin fever.
But, amid the cold and dark, there are rays of light peeking through. Sometimes there’s still a little sunlight on my drive home from the office. The forecast finally has some temperatures that start with a 4. The Red Sox have started spring training. Soon I’ll be saying that we made it to spring! And not long after that, I’ll start complaining that it’s too hot….
